When I had the joy of walking around in the convent of St. Clare in Assisi this past July, I found a group of Franciscan Sisters also on pilgrimage. This one Sister paused in the window of the dormitory where St. Clare and her Sisters all slept. She was seated on a small window ledge praying her noontime prayer. I was intrigued with her silhouette. It was the same as in the 1200’s when the first Poor Clares would have used the natural light from the very same window. Yes, you guessed it…I had to paint the scene, and I will show my progress tomorrow. The stories of Francis and Clare are still very much alive in Assisi today inspiring all who come.
