Today, December 12th is the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe, the Patroness of the Americas. I have always loved the story of Juan Diego and his encounter with the charming personality of the Mother of God. Here is a simplified version of the painting that she gave Juan imprinted on his tilma; I did not try to match her artistry. She gave him an image of herself adorned in all kinds of Aztec symbolism, including her face that was both Aztec and Spanish. But I remember reading that the fur-lined gown was something Jewish woman wore in cold weather. Ah, she is so beloved.
