This week, one painting will be developing through the photos above. Here are the bare basics of how I usually begin: a toned canvas, a rough drawing in paint, and the first loads of under-layers of paint. The wet paint is easily changeable by wiping out and starting again. At this stage, I am testing out the arrangement as well as the hues of color.

    I’m fascinated by the process of developing your painting in oil. Perhaps you have seen a little film about Picasso as he develops a painting. In the process, he came to end points which were beautiful, yet he continued. In the end, he realized that he had overworked, and cast it aside.

    You show how adept at drawing with just a brush–it is already a painting with energy and life.
