Sometimes imitating the masters can teach you some new approaches to painting. A current, modern day painter is Roos Shuring who creates the most grace-infused beach scenes, mostly of the Netherlands. No one can create spectacular light-fraught scenes from gobs of paint like she can. She even scrapes off all the leftover mixtures from her pallette and saves them in a tin to use again. From the recycled oil paint, she gets the most incredible grays. (I would have only mud). In the above, I was going for her wondrous sky movement, and maybe I captured a hint of it.
