On January 1, the Catholic Church honors Mary as Mother of God. While most of the world celebrates the New Year, the Church pays Mary, Christ-Bearer, the most solemn honor for her part in the Mystery of the Incarnation. This holy day is called the “Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God.”
