Bridal Bells

White cones of soft petals form these make-believe flowers. Here I was practicing light and shadow with warm and cool tones. Some of the best floral painters achieve wonderful color in the shadow areas, and so I strive.

Lovely Weather for Ducks

11×14″ oil on canvas panel; SOLD

One late Autumn day years ago, I went to a farm in Amish Country in Ohio that was dedicated to plein aire painting. Though these inhabitants had no interest in what about twenty of us were pursuing, they did seem content to waddle among us. They were caught on camera near their favorite haunt, resting in the cool shade.

A cascade of fragrance and form, thanks once again to the generous blooms of peony. In these warm ivories are delicate lines of deep red, so I planned to capitalize on the color by setting up this still life. The little bird of quick-dry sculpture material helped to carry the soft whites below.

Filipina Senorita

Whenever there was a special celebration in the Cathedral Church, the youth of the parish in Balanga, Philippines were asked to dress up in traditional attire. This young woman was wearing traditional Spanish clothing with bold stripes and bright shawl. She added much feminine decor to the pomp and circumstance.

Fresh as a Daisy

Daisies, the pretty field flowers, are ever interesting to paint. I keep practicing to get more beautiful shadows on the petals, and I am not always successful. This painting is almost entirely from imagination; only the bottle is something I had on hand. Praise God who embroiders the meadows with such cheerful loveliness.

Meet Sr.Maresa

I am Sister Maresa Lilley, a member of the Sisters of Notre Dame, located in Chardon, Ohio, USA. For many years, I have enjoyed a passion that permits me to reflect upon simple reality with a brush in hand. To capture a simple essence on canvas and to discover inherent beauty is a daily immersion.
