Francoise Blin de Bourdon was a woman of nobility in 18th century France. When she met Julie Billiart, who was at the time an invalid, Francoise’s heart gradually became united with Julie’s as the two planned to follow God in religious life in a new community of Sisters. Francoise’s resources supported all of St. Julie’s plans and needs for the first Sisters. This table setting notes some characteristics of Francoise’s upbringing. Francoise (Mere Joseph) later became the second Superior General after Julie. Julie and Francoise are considered the co-foundresses of the Sisters of Notre Dame of Namur.
