Our Lady of Guadalupe

14 x 11″ oil paint on artist board, special commission In 1531, Our Lady appeared to Aztec Juan Diego, leaving her image on his cloak (tilma). To this day the image is venerated and celebrated, especially in Mexico. Throughout the Catholic Church, December 12 is the Feastday of Mary under this title, as we honor […]

By the Name of Mary

We sometimes forget that Mary, the Mother of Jesus, was so like us in so many ways. Swallowed up in the human condition, she too had hardship and uncertainty stretching her faith into an unknown future. She was at one time just a girl who generously gave her yes.

Duke

Earlier in the year, I was asked to paint this pair of pals as a potential wedding anniversary gift. The woman whose name I never learned was fond of her hiking partner Duke, now deceased, so her husband commissioned me to produce this image from his photo. The anniversary is now past so, alas, I […]

Rose of Yesteryear

Several year ago, I received the commission to paint this lovely bride from a black and white photo. She is a gem in time and hopefully had a rich life ahead of her.

Dear Jesus…

Below are two earlier stages of many of this nearly refined painting. Pure and innocent, a child attuned to heaven.

Clarinet Player

A customer requested a simple impression of herself playing the clarinet, something she has done most of her life. Since I had no good photographic visuals, I had to imagine a simple stylistic rendition of her. After minor adjustments, she accepted this, and it will be sent off to her in a week or so.

Joy to the World

From a free photo I transformed the images into toddler Jesus and Mary whose life at that time had to be full of joy.

Guardian for Maya

I was asked to paint a guardian angel for a new baby with health difficulties. May her angel bring healing and grace.

Number 10

This is a special request for a star player’s Birthday. Hope he likes it!
