Butterfly #13
Today I read that Butterfly Farmers in Central and South America are developing tropical butterflies from egg to flight. Not only does this protect the species, but also preserves some of the rain forest for their habitat. Wonderful news.
Porcelain Lady (2nd Half)
This post follows yesterday’s. The painting is not yet finished, but you can see in the comparison how much more work has been done. I will still refine and try to get the “shine” on the figurine in the final stage.
Porcelain Lady (1st half)
Among some treasured figurines from the closing of a family home was this fine porcelain lady. Perhaps she is a southern Belle, if only we knew her story. I do hear her speak elegance and femininity, so she is emerging from flower blossoms and reflective table top. This first half, about six hours of painting, was just to set the base colors and plan the space. Much more refining will come.
Double Hydrangea
These hydrangea blooms were so deeply pink, they poised my paintbrush for the challenge. Numerous tiny blossoms form these flower heads, and painting each one completely would yield an overworked image for me. So they offer the practice of merely suggesting what is really there and still getting the idea “hydrangea” across.
Preeminent Peony
This billowy head bent my way among the last of May’s peonies this year. While it is complex in multi-petaled layers, I tried to see it in the most simple masses before working toward just enough and no more detail.
