Julie Billiart, the foundress of the Sisters of Notre Dame of Namur, Belgium, was an ordinary country girl. This trait was exemplified in a place setting for her in an exhibit by her Sisters today. I liked this way of characterizing this aspect of her life, and planned the above painting as a companion piece to another I have begun for her friend and co-foundress: Francoise Blin de Bourdon.

I love the simplicity of the place setting but most of all how the cross is
placed above everything else. A great reminder to me; how I should
“set” my own life. Thank you Sister Maresa!
