Rose of Yesteryear

14 x 11″ oil paint on artist board

Several year ago, I received the commission to paint this lovely bride from a black and white photo. She is a gem in time and hopefully had a rich life ahead of her.

Dear Jesus…

14 x 11 x .5″ oil paint on artistist board

Below are two earlier stages of many of this nearly refined painting. Pure and innocent, a child attuned to heaven.

Blocking in first layer of color, usually darker and bolder to serve as shadow tones in final.
Sketching and beginning to block in color on a toned board.

Sunflowers and Roses

11 x 14 x ,5″ oil paint on artist board

This bouquet served as a table centerpiece last spring, and I finally decided to render my photo of it in paint.

Americana

5 x 7″ oil paint on canvas panel

Clarinet Player

6 x 8″ oil paint on canvas sheet; special commission

A customer requested a simple impression of herself playing the clarinet, something she has done most of her life. Since I had no good photographic visuals, I had to imagine a simple stylistic rendition of her. After minor adjustments, she accepted this, and it will be sent off to her in a week or so.

Meet Sr.Maresa

I am Sister Maresa Lilley, a member of the Sisters of Notre Dame, located in Chardon, Ohio, USA. For many years, I have enjoyed a passion that permits me to reflect upon simple reality with a brush in hand. To capture a simple essence on canvas and to discover inherent beauty is a daily immersion.
