With Lemon, Please

24 x 18″ Oil paint on stretched canvas

What fascinated me about the free photo I used were all the line designs (laborious!) as well as the colors, so I attempted to paint the image on a large canvas. Below I include early stage photos:

Beginnings

Heart of Darkness

14 x 11″ oil paint on artist board

And so begins the Sacred Triduum, Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and Holy Saturday. In the timeless words of the poet Joyce Kilmer:

Lord, Thou didst suffer more for me

Than all the hosts of land and sea.

So let me render back again

This millionth of Thy gift. Amen. (Prayer of a Soldier in France)

Dixie

8 x 6″ oil paint on canvas sheet; special commission

I was asked to paint this unique pup with the big eyes for a special Birthday surprise. Dixie is now much older with a whitish coat of long fur which only makes her eyes pop the more.

Only Believe

8 x 8″ oil paint on cradled artist board

When all the friends of Jairus were telling him that his daughter was dead, don’t bother the Teacher, Jesus said to Jairus, “Don’t be afraid, only believe.” (Mk. 5:36)

Our Refuge

8 x 8″ oil paint on cradled artist board

Mary, Mother of Jesus, has many titles, one of which is “Sweet Refuge”. We look to her as our safe place between earth and heaven, our sure link to her Son.

Meet Sr.Maresa

I am Sister Maresa Lilley, a member of the Sisters of Notre Dame, located in Chardon, Ohio, USA. For many years, I have enjoyed a passion that permits me to reflect upon simple reality with a brush in hand. To capture a simple essence on canvas and to discover inherent beauty is a daily immersion.
