Intermission II

Here is a larger version of an earlier small painting sketch also posted on the blog. This ballerina is at momentary rest between scenes, and no doubt she is imagining her next dance before curtain call. Her long, graceful tulle gown helps create the unearthly world of the ballet. Dance has power to transport dancer and audience to loftier visions, and ballet in particular does this with its power to paint the stage in graceful, moving beauty.
Decision

One foot out and one foot in…often a stage in decisions. This young woman is poised to enter into the dark unknown of her future. Yet the flower offering shows her willingness and her self-gift to make the step over the threshold. This is a larger painting made after a previously posted sketch of 8×8″.
Delicate Daisies

This is a miniature painting of imaginary daisies. The small jar looks like a canning jar, though only one pickle would fit. I like to use it for simple flowers and give the look a country sense. Daisies are one of those daily field flowers so resilient, yet, in a bouquet, can add delicate simplicity. Usually they make us humans smile.
Sing Alleluia

As a teenager, I owned a little music box within a trio figurine of singing nuns. It played “Dominique” from the Debbie Reynolds film, “The Singing Nun.” Recently, I found this old treasure in my mother’s belongings without the music box inside. So, just for fun, here is a little music in paint. Nothing serious here.
May Flowers

May was generous with her peonies this year, and I could not paint enough of them. Full fragrant blooms in pinkish creams…just irresistable. These peonies are in a darker more dramatic background to be cast in a more traditional look. Sometimes a little drama in life is good.
