Floral Reflection
Yesterday’s painting was a small study or quick sketch to prepare for the larger piece shown above. Floral Reflection is nearly finished, but, at this point, I usually take some time to think before any more strokes…
Tulips in Blue Glass
The many tulip bulbs have popped up around our courtyard, and one must be quicker than the deer or rabbits to enjoy them. This turquoise glass vase wants center stage whenever I paint it, so I give it the lead.
Butterfly #2
It is not easy to count the world’s butterflies, but numbers given in various reports hover around 25,000 species. Add the beautiful moths to them and the number more than doubles. Each one, a study in powdery beauty and design. Did you know that butterflies taste with their feet? Now there’s a remarkable thought.
Butterfly #1
Some say the butterfly got its name from days long ago, when windows were open and milk and butter were made in the kitchen. The story goes that the winged beauties loved the milk and cream of the churner. The Germans named the creature Milk Thief. I have several small painting boards 5×5″ square, so I may fill them with a variety of these lovely sky fairies.
Teapot Tulips
The earth has awakened after winter’s long hibernation. A favorite spring flower is the lovely tulip with its cup-like shape. I never tire of tulips or of painting them, either imaginatively as these are, or from life. The tea pot, though, was real and served as my inspiration.
